Honouring two magnificent big cats who brought joy and awareness to so many

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Kubu, our much-loved male Sumatran tiger, who died peacefully in March 2025. Kubu was a truly majestic presence at Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens, and he will be dearly missed by both our team and visitors alike. His full obituary is available on our Facebook and Instagram pages.

We also remember Dua, our cherished female tiger, who passed away in August 2023 at the age of 19. Dua was a graceful and dignified animal who captured the hearts of everyone who met her.

These losses have left a huge gap in our wildlife family, and our thoughts are with the incredible animal care team who looked after Kubu and Dua with such devotion.

Looking ahead

We know how important these iconic animals are to our visitors, and we are currently working with conservation partners on plans for the arrival of new tigers at Thrigby Hall. We hope to share exciting news soon.

Why tigers matter

Kubu and Dua were part of an important effort to raise awareness of the plight of the Sumatran tiger, a critically endangered subspecies found only on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. Fewer than 400 remain in the wild today — a dramatic decline from the estimated 1,000 tigers in 1978.

By visiting Thrigby Hall, adopting animals, or donating to our Conservation Fund, you are directly supporting efforts to protect these incredible creatures and their fragile habitats.

Thank you for your support and compassion.
