Welcoming our newest resident and hope for the future
We’re incredibly excited to introduce the latest addition to the Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens family - Raja, a stunning two-year-old male Sumatran Tiger, who has recently arrived from Frankfurt Zoo in Germany.
Raja’s arrival is not just thrilling news for our team and visitors - it’s also a vital part of the international conservation effort to protect one of the world’s most endangered big cats. With fewer than 400 Sumatran Tigers left in the wild, his move to Thrigby is part of a global species management programme designed to help safeguard the future of this critically endangered species.
Since arriving in Norfolk, Raja has been settling in beautifully and already made a big impression on our animal care team. He’s full of character - curious, confident, and keen to explore his new surroundings.
Later this year, Raja will be joined by a female Sumatran Tiger as part of a carefully planned breeding programme, giving hope to the survival of this magnificent species.
Raja’s arrival marks a new chapter for our tiger habitat, following the sad loss of our much-loved male tiger Kubu earlier this year. Though he can never be replaced, we’re proud to continue our commitment to tiger conservation and honour Kubu’s legacy by welcoming Raja.

We’re incredibly grateful to our supporters for their patience and can’t wait for them to meet him.”
Visitors may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of Raja as he explores his new home. He’s still finding his feet, so he might choose to spend time in his off-show areas while he settles in. We appreciate your patience during this time and will keep sharing updates on Raja’s journey in the weeks ahead.
