About Our Chinese Striped-Neck Turtle
The Chinese Striped-Neck Turtle (Mauremys fascicularis), also known as the Striped Neck Turtle, is a small freshwater species native to East Asia. It is typically found in slow-moving rivers, ponds, and wetlands throughout the region.
This turtle is modest in size, with males reaching up to 20 centimetres and females slightly larger at around 25 centimetres in length. Its oval shell ranges in colour from brown to olive green, offering natural camouflage in its aquatic habitat.
The turtle’s most recognisable feature is the bold yellow and black stripes that run along its neck, which inspired its common name. These distinctive markings, combined with its gentle nature and adaptability, make it a fascinating reptile to observe.
